Chapter One
Bowsette blew a soft breath of fire onto the meat at the end of the toothpick. The thin wood singed, broke, and the meat cube fell to the intricately carpeted floor. She kicked it under the elegant, white-clothed table and wiped the charcoal from her hand.
Did anyone see that?
She eyed the people around the main hall, mostly clustered in small groups, probably conversing about why someone from the Trench Kingdom would be at their party. At least the meat drop appeared to have gone unnoticed.
Bowsette checked her outfit, a dark navy, almost black colored dress that hugged tightly to her frame, with a line of gold trim at the top. She did try to maintain only a modest amount of cleavage showing, completely hiding her nipples. She pulled up the blue jewel between her girls. This was a fancy affair after all, but even with the breast coverage, she had spotted many of the men stealing glances at her from over their drinks or as they stuffed their faces with confections and meats of all kinds. A few even winked at her when their lady companions were looking away.
The women mostly gave her slanted glares as they adjusted their dresses and took their men’s hands in theirs. Since she had never been to Princess Cupcake’s castle, she wondered how she earned a reputation as a man stealing succubus. Even though that was her intention, for at least two particular men, but they surely didn’t know it. She guessed she had intruded onto their precious party like a weed in a flower garden.
She had to admit the place looked beautiful with the grand hall of the castle decorated in light pinks and whites, Cupcake’s trademark colors and rarely did one go without the other. There were chairless tables covered in various treats scattered throughout the massive hall. She suspected the lack of seating was to keep the crowd on their feet, moving and engaging with each other. She had once planned balls such as this, well, maybe not this pretentious, but fancy for the Trench Kingdom. That seemed like another life now.
As she passed a table, she studied the fruits cut into stars, squares, balls, and about every shape in between. Only touching a melon ball was she sure they hadn’t been fake. The next table held cakes of many sizes and colors with the one in the center towering up to her eye level. The letter C in pink frosting had been emblazoned on the top tier. However, she hadn’t seen a single person actually take anything from a table. Maybe it was some Grand Kingdom thing to display but not touch. The cakes looked too exquisite to just slice into, plus it would just give them further fodder for her proposed savagery.
The people were less interesting than the tables. Somehow shredded had become fashionable and many of the people looked as if they had been toilet papered by hooligans or wore some ghastly made costume representing beings that had passed on and perhaps they were. None seemed to possess a spirit or an interest in speaking with Bowsette. An occasional pleasant nod with a hurried exit was as close to a conversation as she got. Not that she wanted to talk with them either.
She did have interest in a particular pair of people that she had yet to find and as each minute passed, anxiety built in her that she may have to go back to the Trench Kingdom without progress on her grand plan.
As she perused a table dedicated solely to napkins in different colors, folds and patterns, Bowsette sighed, watching the hot air she produced swirl in front of her, disturbing a batch of bird shaped napkins.
So this is how her enemy spent their leisure time? Talking in tight groups while the help laid out elaborate displays that no one cared to look at twice. Maybe for them a table dedicated for just fancy serviettes was common, but for Bowsette it reeked of waste and decadence. Especially from the very people that had destroyed her kingdom and killed much of her people not long ago. It was as if Princess Cupcake used this party to smear her face with pink frosting and lace cloths. The heat in her gut built up to the back of her throat. She wanted to breathe her fire over all these people.
“Bowsette?”
She turned to find Princess Cupcake standing behind her. She was tall for her kind but not nearly as tall as Bowsette. Her pink hair reached below her chest and seemed as light as cotton candy and everything on her sparkled with glitter, including her white and pink dress. Only the gold and silver rings seemed out of place on her. Most likely items of power.
Bowsette had seen her on the projector many times but to actually see her in person, left her speechless. She was beautiful, with a kind face and a welcoming smile. She instantly had the urge to punch her in the face.
“I—” Bowsette said and stopped herself from completing the sentence that would have most likely gotten her escorted back to the warp gate.
“It’s okay. It’s often people are wordless when they see someone of my… stature. But I can assure you that I butter my bread just like you do, or at least I have someone butter it, but you get what I mean, right?”
Bowsette’s eyes widened as she spotted the Commanding Rod swinging from Cupcakes hip like a trinket or something you’d buy at the common store. It was a thick, golden rod about a foot long, encrusted with jewels with a white, round stone on top. She’d seen it in her uncle’s hand as he ruled over all the lands. It was thought to be the most powerful object in all the kingdoms, and Bowsette resisted the urge to tear it from her right then and there. Too many guards. Too many people to stop her but in time, it would be hers and she would ruin Cupcake’s little world in as many ways as she could.
She rubbed her dark dress smooth with her hands and showed a few of her sharp teeth in the nicest way possible.
“Thank you for inviting me,” Bowsette said. “You have a lovely castle and kingdom here.”
That’s when Princess Banana walked up. She was shorter and broader than Cupcake and wore a yellow hat with a wide, thin brim, topped with a blue feather. Her blue dress had a yellow line trimming all the edges. She was pretty on her own, but next to Cupcake, she looked plain. The scowl on her face though, made her look ugly.
“Nice dress,” Banana said, not even bothering to hide her eye roll. “Really testing the tensile strength of that fabric, aren’t we?”
“Thanks,” Bowsette said, adjusting her top down just a tad more, so the edge of her nipple showed just above the golden trim.
Banana’s mouth hung open at the site and looked to Cupcake. “See, this is why—”
“Now, Banana, this is our guest. She comes from a dark place, surrounded in lava and have you seen the people she rules over?”
“What’s left of them,” Banana muttered.
They both laughed softly. “Stop it,” Cupcake said.
Bowsette’s rage bubbled up in her. She burped, and a
small flame burst from her mouth. She could barely hold back the rest of the fire in her. She wanted to fry these smug women. She covered her mouth with her hand and grabbed a glass of water from the table.
“You okay?” Cupcake asked.
“Yes, I’m fine,” she said between gulps of water.
“Why did you invite her? She clearly isn’t housebroken,” Banana said, with her hand on her hip, touching the black, bomb wand hanging from her waist.
What Bowsette wouldn’t do to take these little princesses’ precious weapons.
“That’s not nice, Banana,” Cupcake said. “She is our special guest and her kingdom is going to be part of our new outreach program.” Cupcake held her hand over her mouth as her eyes widened. “I’m so sorry, that was supposed to be a surprise. Well… since I’ve opened my big mouth… I wanted you to be the first to know that we are going to start sending flowers and floral scents to your kingdom, to ease the suffering after… you know… your uncle’s aggression ended.”
“Floral scents?” Bowsette asked. “What the fuck are we going to do with scents?”
“Well, stop smelling, silly,” Cupcake said with a laugh as Banana scowled. “You know, my mom said that if we smell good, we feel good. And please dispense with F-bombs in my castle. Banana here has a thing about language.”
“F-bombs?” Bowsette said, staring at the skinny neck on Cupcake. She bet she could squeeze that windpipe until it broke before one royal guard could make it to her, but she had a longer plan in play, she just needed to find one of her idiot men she seemed to be hiding.
“Unless you’re talking about F-bombs, as in the flower bombs we’ll be sending you,” Banana said and Cupcake looked at her with pity.
Bowsette tried to swallow the words, but they spilled out. “Well, fuck you very much for your flowers. I mean, flowers, really? How about I shove them up your ass so far that even Banana’s tongue isn’t getting them out. Oh, and yes, I know about you and Banana. Everyone knows.”
Banana gasped and had her wand out in a second.
Even Cupcake had a hand on her golden rod.
“The control on the Commanding Rod doesn’t work on my kind,” Bowsette said, eyeing Cupcake’s rod.
“No, of course it doesn’t,” Cupcake said, between grinding teeth.
Cupcake pushed Banana’s wand down as a hint of color reached those perfect cheeks.
“I tell you what,” Cupcake said. “Since you are such a diplomatic, fantastic representation of your land, we will only charge you five percent more in taxes for the gift of pleasant smells for your whole kingdom. Really, it’s a steal for you.”
“Another tax?” Bowsette wanted to scream.
She wanted to breathe her lasting breath of flames over them all until the whole castle fell to the ground in an ash pile. She smoothed her dress out and pulled her top up enough to cover her nipples.
“The Trench Kingdom would be happy to accept your generosity,” Bowsette said, showing a few of her sharp teeth with a deep bow.
Cupcake seemed taken aback. “Well… good. And for real, Bows, no hard feelings about your uncle kidnapping me and stuff. As my mother used to say all is well that ends well.”
“Who did it end well for?” Bowsette asked.
“She also said every game has a winner and a loser, but what matters is how you play the game. I think it’s obvious who won,” Cupcake said.
Bowsette was starting to hate Cupcake’s mother and was reaching the end of her line. Too many more words and she was afraid she’d do something that would land her in the castle jail.
Digesting some of her anger and fire, she readied herself to give Cupcake a last chance at peace. Before her stood two roads and Cupcake’s response would determine which path she’d take. As much as Cupcake pissed her off, she felt she had to ask it, or it wouldn’t be right what she had to do next.
“Cupcake, as the representative from the Trench Kingdom, I have a request.”
“A request?” Cupcake asked.
“This should be good,” Banana muttered.
“We want out from under the Grand Kingdom. We want to be an independent kingdom and be allowed to trade with any other kingdom we see fit. We will require nothing from you, so you can save your flowers.”
Cupcake let out a single laugh as she held her hand over her chest. “Request denied.”
“I wasn’t finished,” Bowsette said, getting close to Cupcakes face. “I want the Commanding Rod destroyed. The citizens of these kingdoms may not know the extent of its power, but I do. No one, not even my uncle, should possess it. We will offer it to the lava river.”
“Wow, Bows,” Cupcake said, pushing against Bowsette with her chest. “If you think I would give in to the demands of some bottom-dwelling princess, you are delusional. I invited you here as a decoration. A show of what happens when you mess with the Grand Kingdom. You have served that purpose. So why don’t you stuff that face of yours with all of my generosity because this is the last time you will see any castle again. I am revoking your warp gate papers.”
Bowsette gritted her teeth, upset at the nickname and the revocation. It meant she would no longer be able to move between kingdoms through the warp gates. Something unheard of and shocking, but it didn’t really matter. Cupcake’s words and actions made Bowsette’s next move crystal clear. It even freed her, knowing everything she did moving forward would be against this terrible pink princess.
With an honest smile, Bowsette said, “Okay, Cups and Banan, I’m going to crash that pastry table, but it’s been a real pleasure to meet ya.” Bowsette patted Cupcake on the shoulder, probably a bit harder than she had intended, but Cupcake didn’t seem phased by it at all. Tough little princess. “Okay, have fun ruling the kingdom.” She walked by them and toward the confectionary spread.
A man wearing a white suit that appeared to be shredded and then reattached with tape greeted her with wide-eyed delight as he chewed on a powdered donut. The white sugar smeared around his mouth like some clown.
“Does your back hurt with those,” he asked with white puffs bursting from his mouth as he stared at her tits.
Why, just why? As the man spoke more about her breasts, she glanced back at the princess pair, but they were already across the entire hall, pretending to be so happy to see a group of people. They had moved past her as if their encounter meant about as much as the folded napkin table.
She pushed past the crude man rather hard and headed toward the back door. She couldn’t spend one more moment with these people, but then she spotted one of the idiots she’d been searching for the whole time. He stood alone next to the punch bowl. The man that destroyed her kingdom.
Chapter Two
She watched as Barkly looked around, hovering over the punch bowl. He raised the silver ladle to his mouth and sucked some of the red liquid up, much of it running down his face and back into the bowl. She laughed, thinking of how many of these people would be lapping up Barkly chin juice.
There he was and she admired him for a moment as one might a zoo animal or an exotic painting. The alien man had dropped from the sky and landed in Cupcake’s kingdom at the moment of her kidnapping. An impossibility by any account, but there he was. She didn’t blame Barkly for the destruction of her kingdom, not really. He had fallen into the right part of the kingdom at the right time for Cupcake to spin the story in her favor. Plus, the whole kidnapping thing her uncle did, helped further Cupcake’s narrative, but if enough time passes, even the most solid lies started showing age. She wondered if Barkly had spotted the wrinkles and sun spots yet.
Much like Cupcake, he looked better in person. A bit on the heavy side, but she liked a man with some meat. The red shirt with a large B over his chest pocket made her laugh. What a goof and what was with the tool belt? It was as if at any second a picture might need to be hung and he was going to have to jump into action, saving the day once again.
She adjusted the top of her dress, maximizing it for cleavage as she strutte
d toward him. Barkly spotted her about five feet away and froze, staring at her assets with unbounded abashment. The ladle emptied along with what liquid was in his mouth, filling more of the bowl with his spit. This might be easier than she thought.
“Hello, I’m Princess Bowsette,” she said, bending over to his height while crossing her arms and pushing her ample breasts closer together.
“Um, hi, I’m Barkly and, um, I’m not supposed to be talking with you,” Barkly said putting the ladle back in the bowl with a clank.
“You’ve got a little,” she pointed to the red liquid on his face.
He rubbed his face with his hand, wiping the red off.
“Here, let me,” she pulled a napkin off the table, got close to his face and dabbed at his clean chin. “There we go. Now, why would you not be allowed to talk with little old me?”
“I…” Barkly stammered and adjusted his tool belt. “Just that you… I mean, I was warned…” He struggled and ended up just smiling with hints of color hitting his cheeks.
“Well, I can leave you alone if you like?”
“No, it’s not that I want you to leave it’s just that, well, I wasn’t sure what to expect. They made it sound like you were a…”
“Monster?”
“Sort of,” he said, looking at the floor.
“Now that you see me, it’s a little ridiculous, right?”
“Yeah, I guess,” he said looking up at her with a big smile.
He had nice teeth, even if they were mostly flat. She wondered how well he could bite and tear with those.
“Well, I’m glad we found each other and at the back corner of this party no less,” she said, moved closer and whispered, “to be honest, I don’t really fit in out there.”
She looked back at the party. They were mostly hidden by a massive ice sculpture of Cupcake holding the Commanding Rod high in triumph. The Trench Kingdom didn’t have ice, so it was something of a spectacle for Bowsette to see so much of it. She wondered how long it would take for her fire breath to turn it to steam.
